WWI Letter Sheet from Gallipoli 300 J Daniel 7Bn
Rare piece – written on Gallipoli. Letter sheet written from Gallipoli by 300 Cpl James Daniel to his Mother, Mrs C. S. Daniel Bowen St Kyneton Victoria. Dated 13/12/15 “Dear Mum, Just a note in great haste, I am in the best of health & spirits. Our Battalion is in the firing line & we expect to be in until Xmas. Much love to all, Your loving son Jim” Cpl James Daniel embarked from Australia with the 7 Bn on 19 October 1914. He was in the 2nd wave to land on Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. Wounded on 15 May 1915, he was transferred to Malta. Rejoined the 7 Bn on Gallipoli 18 September 1915. After the evacuation from Gallipoli the 7Bn was transferred to France in February 1916. James Daniel was wounded on 26 February 1917 and died of wounds 28 February 1917. The letter sheet has the official 2nd Aust Inf Bde stamp and dated 13Dec15 also the Censor stamp.
