Description

Stamped 9ct Gold with Brown over Red Enamel.  Pin intact and working.  Measures 4cm. The 23rd Bn was raised in Victoria in March 1915 and landed at Gallipoli in September 1915.  The Battalion took part in action in the Somme, France and was estimated to lose almost 90 per cent of its original members.  In 1917 the Battalion participated in battles in Belgium and in April 1918 the 23rd Bn helped to turn back the German spring offensive.
